Cinemascape by ARCC | Gigs and Concerts

Gigs

Spring....

...and another one, bit more upbeat, Jacque Tati’s Trafic, a gently hilarious take on traffic and the modern world every bit as relevant today as it was when made in 1971. and with some tasty vintage vehicles too - as well a good sprinkling of authentic early 70s hippies.

The legendary French comedian Monsieur Hulot, played by Tati, returns for his last film as a bumbling car designer making his chaotic way to an auto show in Amsterdam. With a humour that is based on acute observation of the comedy of the absurdities that surround us every day.

At the Love Lounge, behind the Bell, Walcot Street, Bath on the first day of spring, 21st of March, absolutely free....

...and a special birthday too.

Winter warmer

...an ARCC winter outing, put your feet up in our front room, the Love Lounge at The Bell, Walcot Street, Bath. Sunday 2nd February, doors open at 7, first feature at 8pm and, as so often, absolutely free. A selection of our favourite films and a couple of new ones, from Buster Keaton to ground breaking and thought provoking modern shorts.

and an unexpected treat....

...the return of Rob Blob, bass player extraordaire, the orginal 'R' in ARCC. We don't know whether this is a one-off guest appearance or the start of a new era. Why don't you come along and show him some appreciation and maybe he'll be tempted to carry on....

The Love Lounge : Video Shoot

6th October 2013 at the Bell, Walcot Street Bath around 5pm

We'll be playing to a selection of our favourites, Buster Keaton will be there, L'Homme Sans Tête, We Have Decided Not to Die, of course Giselle Kerosene and others.

We're making a film. To try and get some class concerts next year, ARCC is stalking its audience. So there might be more technology knocking about as we set up for a video shoot with new VJ and Director Mike Sides.

Naqoyqatsi : Life as War

September 8th at Bird of Prey.

The third and last film in the Qatsi series, made in 2002, this is the darkest and most intense of Reggio's trilogy. Opening with some breathaking views of noble but abandoned buildings the film is split into three movements; numerica.com, circus maximus and rocketship 20th century, culminating in anexplosive climax of sound and vision.

2012 has seen ARCC building it's video show so come along and experience our son et lumiere spectacular; two 5 metre screens, live band and dance.

We will be playing a short film "We have decided not to die", one of our favourite shorts before the main feature as part of a film production so we can build a Youtube presence to a brand new recording by Chris Aplin.

How to find Bird of Prey; google map. Parking is possible at Bathampton, either by the George or the shops, distance half a mile.

Theatre in the Dock

The Longest Narrow Boat Journey in the World

Nick Sanders’ epic narrow boat voyage from the Black Country to the Black Sea. Intersperced with snippets of working boat film.

Toolley's historic dry dock, Banbury, Saturday 6th October 2012 10pm

Warning: could be distressing to boaters of a nervous disposition as this film contains a boat sinking in 63 feet of water.

Nick Sander writes;

“I sailed to the Black Sea in two narrow boats, from Liverpool, it's the longest narrow boat journey in the world. But I sunk one of the boats near Bratislava in Czechoslovakia and lost everything, all my possessions. I and my two crew nearly lost our lives. This was the middle of February, it was freezing and I made the wrong decision.

Dismissing it as a “little thing'' he managed to crane the boat out, dried everything that had survived and carried on four days later only to sail through war-torn Serbia, at the height of the war, witnessing the immediate aftermath of the destruction of Vukovar.

Qatsi revisited: Episode 2 Powaqqatsi

ARCC play Powaqqatsi 2012

The second in Godfrey Reggio's acclaimed Qatsi series. After a successful showing of Koyanniqatsi last year, we are proud to announce the 2nd film, Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation, an examination of how the southern hemisphere feeds and clothes the north but is corrupted in the process. To treasure disappearing lifestyles and examine the juxtapositions of northern industry with southern ethnicity. Once again we will transform the Antoinette in a beautiful city of light and sound.

Qatsi revisited

Long time followers of Cinemascape will remember Godfrey Reggio's Quatsi series are one of our greatest triumphs. Well we have decided that it is time to bring them out again with the new input of VJ Arnie and Camera Dancer Bethan.

To kick off, we are playing Koyaaniqatsi, the first of the series on Full Sail Theatre's floating studio the Antoinette on Saturday 26th November. We will project onto 3 large screen in and around the Antoinette, transforming the towpath once again into a magical kingdom of light and sound. Parking is available on Bathampton lane and then walk down Meadow lane to Candy's Bridge.

How to find Candy's Bridge

Doors open at 6pm and the main feature will start at 8.30pm. Admission is absolutely free, though donations to feed our projectors and equipment will be gratefully received.

Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of balance is the first of Godrey Reggio's series released in 1982, from Wikipedia;

The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. Reggio explains the lack of dialogue by stating "it's not for lack of love of the language that these films have no words. It's because, from my point of view, our language is in a state of vast humiliation. It no longer describes the world in which we live." In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "unbalanced life"

Larkhall

Larkhall was a great success, the debut of VJ Arnie and camera dancer Bethan White have added a wonderful and dynamic dimension to the ARCC megalith.

Surfing the front of the excitment we are planning the Bird of Prey outside party, with Malarchy confirmed, the choir buying throat lozenges in bulk, it's now the talk of the canal. It will be a wonderful event, it may take a bit of effort to experience but worth every bit.

Of course, there is just one small thing.....

...the will of the Weather God.

So...having resolved to propriate the Weather God  with a magnificent sacrifice, offered up three thousand of every kind of sacrificial tofu, and besides made a huge pile, and placed upon it couches coated with silver and with gold, and golden goblets, and robes and vests of purple; all which we burnt in the hope of thereby making ourselves more secure in the favor of the Weather God"

The Spring tour of Western Bath

Well, that's what it seems like, hopefully we will reach three very different audiences, albeit in a small geographic area.

We welcome the involvement of Bethan White, dancer, inspiration and cameraperson and Arnie, who will be VJ and vision mixer, adding a new dimension to the performance and video decor.

To kick off this new involvement we are performing a soundtrack to Jason and the Argonauts

Jason and the ARCConauts

Live soundtrack to Jason and the Argonauts featuring Ray HarryHausen's stop motion animation. A mix of film, live camera, dance by Bethan White, VJ Arnie at the controls all to the hypnotic swamp groove improvised live by ARCC.

ARCC play a live soundtrack to 1963 classic film Jason and the Argonauts featuring Ray HarryHausen's stop motion animation. A mix of film, live camera, dance by Bethan White, VJ Arnie at the controls all to the hypnotic swamp groove improvised live by ARCC.

An epic tale of gods and heroes, the quest of legendary hero Jason to obtain the fabled Golden Fleece in the ship Argo aided by the favour of the queen of the gods, Hera.  Fantastic stop motion animation by special effects legend Ray Harryhausen bring this classic mythological adventure to life. The story of Jason, rightful king of Thessaly, who must find the fleece to make good his claim to the throne. With the help of Hera, queen of the gods, he sets sail in the Argo, meeting along the way a 200 foot bronze giant, the venomous Hydra with the heads of seven snakes and an spectacular battle with an army of skeletons.

ARCC will improvise a live soundtrack to this film of their unique and hypnotic swamp blues, enhancing the narrative and intensifying the excitement, together with decor of light and video, live camera,  VJ skills of Arnie and the beautiful and beguiling dance of Bethan White overlaid with live poetry.

Malarchy – headlining at the Fringe Club

“Malarchy play a devious brew of trans-European travelling sounds, stirring spirits and guiding lovers onto higher plains. ...this is a thoroughly top-notch outfit. Malarchy are the history of rhythm and harmony, topped off with measures of jazz and moonlight.”

The Chaos Choir

World Premiere of 'Happy Jack' at Ashton Court Festival

Usually when you hear the words "world premiere" you can safely assume that although it may be the first performance for the public of that show there will have been extensive rehearsals and previews. When ARCC says "world premiere" - it does what it says on the box.

Ashton's Courts preformance of Happy Jack, apocryphal tale of our times, was not only the first time the show had been preformed in any way, it was also the first time that bunch of musicans had all played together.

We have a CD for sale, personalised for you, of that performance at Ashton Court in the Blackout tent on 23rd July 2006. There will never be another exact repeat of that performance.

The recording you will receive will in some way be totally unique. Maybe a mix, artwork, message? Try it and see.
